These are one of earth's most ancient animals (and It loves to eat earth's oldest living insect)

Like the Kiwi and many other unique New Zealand Species Tuatara once roamed all over New Zealand. 

Having been decimated by modern human settlement they are carefully being recovered from the brink of extinction. 

We find tuatara at Nature Parks and can take a guided tour in a special breeding facility at Invercargill.

Only recently have local scientists discovered how to breed these unique creatures in captivity so the species can begin to recover from the brink of extinction.

This program began in Invercargill as a result of the accumulated knowledge, skill, observation and dedication of a local enthusiasts.
