Giant Viaduct

Near the Arthur's Pass this magnificent structure stands over 100 feet above the alpine river.

The viaduct was built in the 2000s to bypass the unstable valley walls and ensure the important highway remains open. 

It was New Zealand's largest construction project and is engineered to cope with earthquakes. floods, avalanches and landslides.
