Tectonics - in the zone
 

The Mining & Milling Zone is uplifting from the continuing tectonic impact between the Pacific and Indo- Australian continental plates.

This unusual on-land tectonic junction ("alpine fault") cuts through this and the neighbouring zone then enters the ocean forming a subduction trench as it travels south to help make the fiord Zone the wonder it is. Action Education In this Zone we explore recently uplifted seabed along the coasts and see where gold accumulated. We travel through valleys that are secondary faults radiating out and moving for millions of years. We witness bent rivers scarps, cracks and spinning hills (tectonic whirlpools) Communities here over the decades have seen numerous earthquakes that change the land in an instant.
