Rivers in the world's wettest lands

Because of the world's highest rainfall in this Zone we find the country's greatest number and variety of rivers.

The heavy rains swell the rivers, they frequently flood, carrying vast amounts of glacier torn rocks and eroded mountain material that create plains and realign the  spectacular coasts.

Flood control studies
We learn how protecting bridges roads, farms and  buildings is a major tasks in this zone.

River measuring studies
We can explore the river measuring programme on the Haast River (
the largest in the zone).  This involves a visit to a measuring station and an information centre.
