New Zealand is the product of these movements and is on the junction of the Pacific & Indo Australian plates. The actual collision fault line between these runs along the length of most of the South Island. It is impacting and sliding causing mountains to uplift huge valleys to be displaced and bend, rivers to change their lines, landslides and inevitable earthquakes.   

Studies
We stop in a newly carved glacier valley where we actually see the faults vertical profile.  We discuss the movements taking place here review the processes involved that cause of the enormous forces now uplifting and moving this mountain range.   With familiarization gained here, we will learn to recognise similar situations anywhere in the world.

We also see the processes that form the more common secondary faults and learn about the frequent earthquakes that damage towns and roads. We explore some of the simple ways communities protect themselves from and prepare for these regular  events.
