Arrowtown
Historic gold rush town

Mary MacKillop House

Downtown Arrowtown

April's Autumn

This beautiful historic town began with the 1860's gold rush on the shores of the rich gold bearing Arrow River.

History
Gold diggers lived here for the 1860's gold rush and now it is loving preserved with is old time character. There are plenty of shops and restaurants for the shoppers and for the rest there a short riverside walk leads to an old Chinese miners ghost town.  A sight from
the LOTR movie.

Studies
Settlements based on Chinese gold miners .  We see their ghost town homes explore their cultures, customs, and special issues endured on the 1880,s gold fields.

Museum
Gold mining aspects are excellently displayed with dioramas, models, audio visual presentations and photographs. Of particular interest are the technologies of the gold mining days;  sluicing, water lifting, bridges, iron working and bridge construction. They have lots of interesting books too.

Sister Mary McKillop
This Australian saint spent a lot of time here helping the people and setting up a community of teaching sisters.  Her home and history are found nearby.
