Fruit Growing

Oasis of irrigated orchards adorn desert lands producing grapes, apples, apricots, peaches cherries. We explore the irrigation and fertilisation processes these involve.

Weather and environment dictate the species of fruit. In the southern South Island's region iintensely managed areas of rich green fruit trees (peaches, apricots cherries apples, pairs, grapes) contrast spectacularly with the brown and gold desert landscape.  In the lush green flood plains of the northern South Island and eastern North Island citric and kiwi fruit species replace some of the stone fruit varieties.

A short visit to one of the orchards enables us to sample the goods.
