 Ferocious rivers cascade through hanging valleys from the snow fields and deluges extracted from the "Roaring Forties". They form spectacular giant waterfalls when they tumble to the base the deep glacier carved valleys.

 Get close,  feel the forces of this most accessible river spectacle. We see the land being carved  with forceful waters generated by high vertical falls carrying erosive bed load stones and sands ripped from the uplifting mountains and making their way to the sea.

 We discover amazing tenacity of native New Zealand rainforests filled with soft lichens and mosses, all born during the dinosaur times. Walks into these stunning areas let our imaginations wander to those fearful days or those of the Hobbits.

 Despite the hardness various ice age glaciers carved these deep U shaped valleys that still retain their shape (and are now being filled with the rising ocean).

Amid the extreme beauty of this Zone we can learn about the special combination of processes, locations and events needed to make these amazing sights here and other special fiord areas on our planet.  Normally the vast amounts of glacier deposits would have filled these spectacular valleys and made coastal plains as seen in other zones.
