Lake Te Anau

This is the South Island's largest lake and gateway to the stunning Milford fiord.

This remote lake has 3 large fiords and a distinctive rain shadow line area separating moraines of tussock grasses on one side and lush dinosaur beach rainforests on the other.

Its waters are used for hydro electric power generation and recreation.

A rest at the quiet lakeside town of Te Anau give us time for a walk or a drink at one of the delightful cafes.
