We follow the first 50 years of planning and toil required to break into this remote spectacle. Challenges included: weather, hard rock, unsuitable machinery, war and bankruptcies. The Homer Saddle Tunnel is a substantial road building achievement requiring continuing work. We visit locations and explore reasons for the placement of the workers' settlements and we investigate the requirements for administration and transportation systems. We examine new road building techniques, stabilisation processes, river controls, avalanche avoidance and protection. Then there is the future to explore. An aerial cable car, mono-rail, tunnel?
