In this zone we encounter mainly farming support settlements.  Apart from Dunedin and Invercargill the small communities here swing and compete with fluctuating world economies and food demands.

(These also influence the larger cities but with much less visible impact).

Here we can take some welcome breaks, meet relaxed friendly people and enjoy big, cheap ice-creams as well as explore some fascinating antiques stores.
