We take a lovely relaxing boat ride across the harbour to the volcano and take a walk to its crater. 

On the way we deviate to the lava tunnel and even go inside it.  (Allow 6 hrs) This is Auckland's youngest volcano at just 600 years.

Studies:-
This is similar to the volcanoes of Hawaii. We see the lava flows of basalts and learn the causes and differences that make shield volcanoes and their frequently associated lava tunnels.

Here too we learn about the regeneration and conservation of the native vegetation.
