14 Fri   Nagasaki - nuclear bombed city that ended WWII
Begin the day by travelling on the limited express train to Nagasaki. Upon arrival, enjoy a stroll through the Glover Garden, an open-air museum that exhibits mansions attributed to the Scottish merchant who contributed to the modernisation of Japan. Also, visit the Oura Catholic Church and Atomic Bomb Museum before returning 2 hrs to Fukuoka.

6-30 breakfast 8am departure for the station and a 2 hrs of train ride south eastwards.  Apart from the memorials there is no evidence left of the bomb.

The British were hoping to include Japan in the 1700's empire.  Traders began arriving. However being aware of the British empire building in other countries the locals strongly resisted anything but limited trading.  Christian religion was severely crushed by the locals and was driven underground.  In the 1840s Jesuit Catholics were reluctantly allowed to established their first official community and church here on the side of the hills (with great views) above the city.  Other brats were involved

Bullet train - smooth and comfortable; but outside walls concealed most views :-(
