15 hr flight starting midnight was fine had 2 seats and slept for about 3 hours.  Arrived Hanoi early enough to have a wander. their time is 5 hours behind NZ  Interesting area thanks Lee.  Met a family group of Ausies who come here every year.  They love it and "always find new streets to look at & thing to do.  Exchanged currency at Auckland $300 made me a multi millionaire! Felt great until I used it to buy something.  

Compared with other Asian cities, the streets quite clean, not too many hassle tourists to buy junk, locals quite friendly and seem accepting of all types, haven't seen any bickering among them either.   Beer about $2.50 on the street and a big local meal around $8. Hotel is fine & welcoming, it is just wide enough for one room and the corridor, 10 stories high and around 6 rooms deep. Wi-fi is good and power points take all adapters.

Vehicles drive on the right.  Tricky crossing roads, ped. crossings are useless you just go when the density is lower, they move around you.  Quite smoggy, 32 deg and high humidity so walking is very leisurely.  Pop 7 mil
