Life giving treasures hidden below reveal themselves as upwelling springs streams and ponds in the low lying land areas neat the coast

The vast Canterbury alluvial Plains have many aquifers carrying alpine rains through the porous loose gravels.  These water flows are used extensively for both irrigation and town water supplies. 

The water wells up in Christchurch area creating pristine rivers that meander into a large picturesque estuary and the ocean.   

Conservation
With increasing usage for farming on the plains, many folk are concerned for the future of these valuable resources. World-wide, aquifers of various types are invaluable to human settlements.

Studies
We learn how water arrives in aquifers and how it is used and sustainably managed by communities.  Interested groups explore the consequences of unsustainable use of these life giving treasurers.
