Wide swift braided rivers deliver gravels from the Southern Alps to the plains and Pacific Ocean coast. 

They break our journey through the lush irrigated farm lands.

Some gentle coastal rivers grow from upwelling aquifers.

Studies:
We explore the processes of new land formation. Rivers in this zone are largely depositing millions of tonnes of material monthly on to the plains and into the sea coast.

Investigations show how the rivers threaten settlements and how systems are in placed to counter them.
