Alpine Vegetation

Mountain Beech - unique to temperate zone countries from Gondwanaland

Alpine Conservation

During walks among the high, weather lashed mountains we view many varieties of exquisite alpine plants.

There are thousands of varieties of mountain plants ranging from the smallest lichens to ancient giants carried from Gondwanaland.  All have evolved to cope with violent warm dry and freezing snow-bearing winds.

Studies
Interested groups explore the methods and adaptations needed to survive in the violent changeable climate of the mountains.

Of particular interest are the ancient beech forests  that have withstood  catastrophic geographic events since they had dinosaurs feasting among them.   Guests become aware of the numerous groups of mountain plants seeing how each copes with the conditions.
