Hydro Electric Power

Despite being in a desert there are vast volumes carried in New Zealand's biggest river from the  deluges that are channelled from the towering Southern Alps .

Currently 2 large dams capture the Clutha River's power and feed it into the homes of millions.

The first of these large constructions began in the 1950's and a later one arrived in the 1990's after earthquake and landslide issues were settled.
