Rivers

Tonnes of gold, were gathered by the land consuming rivers in this zone.  They are fed by heavy rains that fall in the distant mountains. Often there are massive disruptive floods.

Studies
There are 5 very different rivers we visit in this zone. We look at the processes of cutting gorges, concentrating gold, laying down terraces, transporting bed load, generating HEP and providing recreation.  We encounter big river rapids and discuss forces and hazards.  River rapid studies take us to a frightening example but also involves models and experiences with small rivers that we can safely enter and feel the forces. We learn about the giant floods, how they flow and their impact on communities. We review how these rivers collected and concentrated gold.

We can explore many ways the adventure loving communities here use these rivers for their businesses and how they are controlled to ensure they take care of both the river and their customers. Rafting, Jet boating.
