Moeraki (Spherical) Boulders

On one wild beach we encounter most unusual giant spherical boulders seeded and grown in a unique geological soup uplifted and exposed.

Geography
These are made by a crystallization processes beginning with a small crustacean and special conditions over 5 million years.

They are now being eroded by the ocean from the material that gave them sustenance for growth. From here the forces of the ocean are destroying them.

Maori legend explain these remarkable rocks as lost food for the gods.
