Exploring the Glacier

In This Zone we encounter New Zealand's biggest glaciers.

Glaciers are deeper and move more slowly compared to the steep racing variety on the western side of the alps.

In the National Park we can access New Zealand's largest and largest; the 100 sq km Tasman Glacier. link  gallery

Moraine insulates the Alpine Grandeur Zone glaciers slowing the melting processes in the warmer atmosphere of the zone.

Alpine walking trails lead to the snouts of these massive mountain grinders where deep growing iceberg containing lakes occupy the huge made over millennia by the now receding ice.
