Assumed Abandonment
Back to abandonment

Abandonment can usually be "assumed" when:-
●  Rents are more than 3 weeks in arrears AND
●  Tenants cannot be contacted the by phone, text or visiting AND
●  Pl
aces are left without fresh food or bedding AND
●  Neighbours, supporters or friends indicate tenants have left.
●  Mail may be accumulating in the mail box

●  Power is off
● There are no suitable sleeping facilities

●  There is no usable fresh food available
●  The place is unlocked

Owners must take photos to prove their property is clearly abandoned should a tribunal later be called by a disgruntled tenant.

Assuming abandonment reduces very large costs for tenants and allows owners to re-let places much sooner.
