Sunday:- Weather
fog all day rough seas and wind and some snow. 2 deg
Usual short gym work very small cooked breakfast then relaxed with
the laptop in the library - lecture on flying birds missed lunch in
return for an afternoon of inside eyelid inspections. Lecture on
heroic explorers. Historic movie of a Scott's trip, then had taste
of the food they used. Passengers pulled weights around the lounge
"poles" for simulation using Scott's
sledge harnesses.
Lots of fun too
Monday:-
Weather still windy and cold. Fog cleared early
6am the fog lifted as we past the first of the 3 stunning Balleny
Islands. 10am zodiac around the 2nd Island and 2pm we
sailed past the 3rd island and crossed the Antarctic Circle again.
Great light conditions for photos. Later attended a charity
auction, then after dinner staff performed a hilarious historic play
Scott used to relieve wintering over boredom (1901). - Today
sun sets around 11-30pm and rising around 2-30am
Tuesday:-
Weather Overcast with
whitecaps.
Couple of lectures and time used to catch-up. in the observation
deck/ library. Some whales and birds
Wednesday:- Weather strong wind
and largest swells experienced so far. Temp up to mild 7deg
2 am woken with an announcement declaring an aurora. Dressed and braved the cold strong wind and "motion of the ocean".
The sky had clouded over so missed!!!. No sleep after that. Gym - coffee in library, then
made eyelid
examinations until lunch. .Lots of thumping and banging as the
ship slammed into the waves. PM in the library catching
up with laptop work.
Thursday Weather
Same as Wednesday Temp 10 dec and felling quite warm. Swell bigger
yet ship rocking & rolling
Slept in till 8;15. skipping and not missing breakfast. Gym and
Library Skipping Lectures
