Itinerary
Head south to the Ross Island area visiting Sub Antarctic Islands on
the way. At the Continent there are several shore landings to
explore wildlife and areas of historic and geographic
interest.
Tue & Wed 7 & 8 Jan - All aboard
First night Queenstown, meet and greet with meal then next day bus
to Bluff, board the ship and head to Stewart Island to kill some
time and avoid a bad weather bomb.
Thurs 9 Jan
Stewart Island
Morning 2 hour walk on Ulna
Island looking at birds and stuff.
Afternoon At Oban looking around the shops
Fri 10 Jan
Snares Islands
Morning exploring from the zodiacs.
Afternoon travelling south.
Sat 11 At Sea
Sun 12
Macquarie Island
Morning Northern end
Close to science base of around 20 we
walk among elephant seals
and king penguins then moved south to Sandy Beach during lunch
Afternoon Mid Island
(East Coast)
Visit Two large colonies one of "King penguins"
and
"Royal penguins".
Then evening Zodiac ride

Southern most visit - Midnight dash to McMurdo Base and Scott's first
"Discovery" hut
then northward bound.

Franklin Island penguin colony and seals
Northward bound with afternoon shore visit in
southern Ross Sea
Sat 25
Possession Island by-pass
Bay inside Cape Adare was filled with
sea ice with strong currents. Not accessible.
