Rent Records (summaries)
Tribunals

Quality rent records help identify payment breaches early. They also help maintain harmony and respect.

Rent Records must be:-

  • Simple to understand and follow

  • Available for tenants and tribunals when requested

  • Completed on termination and given to tenants

"Rent Records" must agree with bank statement entries and also show:-

  • Renter's and provider's names

  • Address of the rental property

  • Tenancy start date and end date when applicable

  •  Payment dates

  • Payment amounts

  • Current balance (of arrears or credit)

Some ideas to make rent records more helpful and save time.  A good spreadsheet and system can save hours of work.

  • Show amount required to be a week in advance

  • Cater for variations of payments and dates

Tenancy Services offer a Word document and also a simple spreadsheet format.  more>

The old way  using columns and rows on paper sheets is still acceptable in law. Suggest use of A4 paper so these can be scanned and used for on-line communications tenants and Tribunals may request..
