SUN 14 – At
Swakopmund
Forwent a boat cruise (water looked a bit rough
and cold) and guided desert tour (had a few already) instead drive
the route suggest in the itinerary provided with the car. First
checked out the local beaches in a cold 14deg wet fog then off to
the National Park desert - hopefully warm sunny - and it didn't
disappoint. Returned early afternoon to a very pleasant
Swakopmund; 19deg calm and sunny. Visited local aquarium, museum and
other places on the map that could have been of interest.
All
prices seem to be about half what we pay.
The local road code has some differences:-
"Stop" mean slow down enough to ensure there is no one else at the
intersection.
If another driver was slowing at his "stop" before you - then he has
right of way.
Driving 10 - 20kmh faster than the speed limit common and often
expected, otherwise the traffic behind piles up and they try to
overtake - On the gravel - this is not good. However,
the traffic is light and the dirt roads nearly twice the width of NZ
gravel roads, but hey are just as dusty.
"Stop/go" men at road works wave red flags at you. If you do it
wrong, then they wave the flag even more.
