 Maori  Settlements

The unique Maori culture was tribal and Stone Age just 150 years ago. Today it is being propelled into a new, modern, aggressive European culture.

Maori settlements still exist in places and are carefully restored for museums and information centres were interest is strong.

Studies help us understand the stresses, reasons and causes of cultural differences so we can respect other cultures and learn from others we may find around the world today.

We can take a guided tour of the Canterbury Museum where we see excellent dioramas depicting the Stone Age Maori people before the Modern settlers arrived.

We view:- hunting techniques, cave life, housing, tools and tool making (from rocks), food, clothing, tools transport systems.
