21 Sun (0) Arrive (0430am) Astana - Kazakhstan ☻ Yesterday's transfers had its share of interest, bemusement and especially hassles. Temp 41seg. Arrived at hotel from mall excursion, hot, tired & late - claimed bags and asked for taxi. Two empties passed, concierge offered a private cab in 10 min. Can't do, I need one to take a credit card and they wont. Got one - rush hour, omg I'll be late!! So many long wait lights. Arrived to pay taxi - oops -no credit card, flustered search, and no cash!! Plan B emergency - cash flow card - found - needed ATM and will it work? - found one - it worked but minimum $50 (I needed $15). (Back to the old days). Rush to pay waiting taxi - oh no, he had gone!! - with my bag!! Panic!! - NO, stay calm, - He will be doing a loop having been moved on. Locals are all too honest to be taking off with a bag. Correct, and he was still waiting - I was simply looked in the wrong place. A tip was given then the flight to catch. Walked miles in the huge terminal. Need cash now - US dollars option - great - 1st ATM kicked me off - so did the 2nd and 3rd? - then I lost the gate signs - go back - found one, I was right - more walking - faster - Found the gate but no one there?? - Check no. - ok - check the time - oops I'm 2 hrs early. Next hassle - cancel the credit card - Google - need wifi - help!! - found - rang emergency no - Nice voice, at last - woken at 3 am NZT (sorry). Card now on hold nothing taken - relax - did web pics and was last on the plane - window seat waiting - (737 so small and jammed after the A380). - found seat - it was occupied!! - and she was not moving!! - Gave up - can't fight with your seat companion. 4.5 hrs later dawn was breaking Astana. Temp 7 deg. Welcomed sign waiting then ride into empty city. Arrived at room and charger not working - all toys flat. Reception rescued that one - Shower, bed, breakfast all so good. - Now I'm off walking to find an atm and charger - its midday and about 18deg ☺ |
