Waitaki River
"Waters of Sorrow"

Beginning with glaciers, this Large river has passed through lakes, several HEP generators and irrigation schemes before reaching its coastal delta.

Along this free spirited river we encounter wide flat plains, berry-fruit, sheep, grain and dairy farms.

We see a changing nature, Maori rock drawings and three giant dams, (one being New Zealand's biggest), as part of a huge Hydro Electric Power scheme.

Average mean flow 350 cu. metres/sec
