Volcano Highway

Here you to experience the greatest variety and concentration of volcanoes.

20,000 cu km of volcanic material has been ejected from hundreds of vents in this zone. There are deep gorges, eroded into the fine ash by the rivers.

Immense Tectonic activity below this zone generates high temperatures that superheat water in the region. The water boils and  washes up through the cracks in the strata arriving at the surface in the different spectacles of boiling mud, fumaroles, hot pools and silica terraces (salt depositions from the hot water). Well presented museums and displays illustrate these phenomena.

Interested groups can explore more by climbing an active volcano and taking trails to various points of interest
