This park includes the highest alps in New Zealand. Its administrators have developed excellent walking trails, roads, alpine cabins, services, and facilities to balance needs of nature untouched and the people who arrive to admire it.

Eight power stations 6 man made lakes and 4 canals combine with nature to generate a third or all New Zealand's power in this Zone.
